Dhaka, February 18: The government of Bangladesh has proposed to provide all necessary assistance to Turkey, which has been affected by the terrible earthquake recently. Bangladesh wants to give this assistance by expressing sympathy to the people of the country. Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen offered this assistance during a phone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

Dr. Momen called the Turkish Foreign Minister on Wednesday. This information was informed in a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"If you need help, we can send construction workers. If you tell us what you need, we will do our best," Dr. Momen told the Turkish foreign minister in a phone conversation.

Meanwhile, the Turkish Foreign Minister said, "We have brotherly countries like Bangladesh. If we need anything, we will let you know without hesitation."

On February 6, a strong earthquake of magnitude 7.8 hit the border region of Turkey and Syria. More than 40,000 people have lost their lives so far.

Describing the horrific disaster as a big shock for Bangladeshis, Momen said, "We are truly shocked by the scale of destruction and loss of life. We offer our sincere condolences and you will also accept us as your brothers, so that we can help as much as possible."

Cavusoglu thanked Momen for calling and thanked the government of Bangladesh and the fraternal people of Bangladesh for their heartfelt condolence and solidarity messages from the president, prime minister, parliament speaker and foreign minister. In the meantime, Cavusoglu thanked the Bangladesh government for sending a 60-person search, rescue and medical team and tents to Turkey, saying, "These are the things we really need right now."

Dr. Momen said that Bangladesh is sending 10,000 tents in addition to the 2,000 tents sent earlier. When asked about the current situation in the country, the Turkish Foreign Minister said, "What you see on television is the worst situation. Some provinces have been hit by earthquakes. In fact two strong earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6, there were thousands of aftershocks, some of which were over 6.5 magnitude."

The Turkish Foreign Minister expressed his condolences for the Bangladeshi citizens injured in the earthquake and wished them a speedy recovery.
