Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 26: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that Bangladesh will soon emerge as a developed and prosperous nation on the world map if the trend of development created in the country continues.

The Prime Minister said this in a message given on the occasion of the 'Great Independence and National Day'.

The Prime Minister also called upon all Bangladeshis to take part in building the hunger-poverty-free, self-confident and self-respecting 'Golden Bangladesh' of the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by cherishing the spirit and ideals of the Great Liberation War.

Bangladesh has celebrated the golden jubilee of independence. On this occasion, the Prime Minister extended her best wishes and congratulations to all Bangladeshi citizens living in the country and abroad. She remembered with deep respect the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, under whose very strong and far-sighted leadership we have got an independent state. She also remembered the four national leaders under whose able direction the Liberation War was conducted.

Mentioning that the blood of three million martyrs of the Liberation War and the debt of self-sacrifice of two lakh honourable mothers and sisters will never be repaid, the Prime Minister paid homage to all the fearless freedom fighters including the war wounded freedom fighters.

She expressed her gratitude to all the friendly countries, organizations, institutions, individuals and especially to the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, who had provided assistance and support in all possible ways during the Liberation War.

The Prime Minister said that decades before our official inauguration as an independent nation on March 26, 1971, the young student leader Sheikh Mujib had dreamed of establishing a sovereign state in this land since the creation of Pakistan in 1947 on the basis of bi-ethnic theory. Day by day, the social, economic and political discriminatory attitude of Pakistanis became clear.

Sheikh Mujib remained steadfast in defending the rights and dignity of the Bengalis in return for any sacrifice. The outcome of his far-reaching thinking was the formation of the Chhatra League and the Awami League, the two organizations from which he was deeply involved from the beginning to the end of his life.

The Prime Minister said, "We are fortunate to have celebrated the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation in 2020-21, the Mujib Year and the golden jubilee of independence through a colourful programme. On this auspicious occasion of Independence Day and National Day, we call upon all Bangladeshis to forget discrimination and nurture the spirit and ideals of the Great Liberation War and participate in building the hunger-poverty-free, self-confident and self-respecting 'Golden Bangladesh' of the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman."
