Own Correspondent, Dhaka, June 29: Matiar Rahman was once the top extremist. He was recently arrested by police in Saudi Arabia's Medina, while begging during the Hajj. Gangni police station in Meherpur said two cases are pending against him. According to family sources, every time he goes for Hajj, he returns home with a large sum of money.

Matiar Rahman is the youngest son of Harun Aur Rashid of Ghatpara area of ​​Sindurkauta village in Gangni upazila of Meherpur. He has one son and three daughters, all of them are studying.

According to local sources, about 20 years ago, while trying to make a bomb in a field called Chokhtola in Gangni upazila, his wrists were blown off. The doctor later cut off both his hands. He spent several days in jail in various cases. He started begging business in Medina during Hajj.

It is learned that every time he went to Saudi Arabia in the name of Hajj. Going there, he begged on the way and returned home with a large sum of money. Thus he has bought 10 to 12 bighas of land in a few years.

Matiar Rahman’s wife Mamtaz Khatun said, "My husband went for Hajj. Every time he returned from Hajj, he brought a large sum of money. I asked him. But I did not get any proper answer from him. Now I hear he went there and begged. It is a shame for my family and children."

Medina police arrested him on June 22 while he was begging. He told everyone that his wallet had been snatched, that's why he was doing this. When the police suspected him, they arrested him and took him to a local police station. Later, when the matter came to light, Bangladesh Hajj Mission released him on bond.
