Dhaka, June 19: Sri Sri Jagannathdev's Rath Yatra festival, one of the religious events of Hindus, is starting tomorrow. According to traditional custom, Jagannathdev's chariot journey begins every year on the second tithi of the Shukla Paksha of Chandra Ashadha.

The Rath Yatra Festival of Sri Sri Jagannath Dev has been organized for eight days in a joyful atmosphere with colorful processions and various religious events. The festival will end with a colorful Uloto Rath procession on June 27 at 3 pm.

According to Hindus, Jagannathdev is the Nath or Adhiswara (guardian) of the world. Jagat is Vishwa (world) and Nath is God. So Jagannath is the God of the universe. People get liberation by getting his grace. He does not have to take birth again as a living being. It is from this belief that Hindus travel with the chariot by placing the image of Jagannath Dev on the chariot.

International Krishna Bhavanamrit Sangh (ISKCON) has organized an eight-day program in Dhaka on the occasion of the auspicious Rath Yatra. The programs include Harinam Sankirtan, Vishwa Shanti and Mangal Kamanaya Agnihotra Yajna, distribution of Mahaprasad, discussion meeting, procession, Padavali Kirtan, Aarti Kirtan, Bhagavad Katha, cultural program, reading of Srimad Bhagavat Gita, screening of religious film and staging of religious drama.

Rath Yatra festival will begin tomorrow with Agnihotra yajna for world peace and prosperity at ISKCON Ashram. A discussion meeting will be held at noon. Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader will attend the meeting as the chief guest. High Commissioner of India in Dhaka Prannoy Kumar Verma will inaugurate the Rath Yatra.

Later, a procession will come out from there in three huge chariots in colorful costumes with portraits of Jagannath Dev, Subhadra and Balaram. The procession will pass through Jayakali Mandir, Motijheel Shapla Chatwar, Dainik Banglar Mor, Baitul Mokarram, Puran Paltan Mor, Jatiya Press Club, High Court Mor, Doel Chatwar, Ramana Kalimandir, TSC, Jagannath Hall and Palashi and end at Dhakeswari Temple.

In addition to the workshop titled 'Role of media in preventing extremism, militancy and violent extremism', Rathtana will also be held at Jagannath Jiu Thakur Temple of Tantibazar in Old Dhaka, Ramsita Temple at Jayakali Road and Shankharibazar Eknam Committee and other temples of the capital and various temples of the country.
