Bangladeshi killed in BSF firing at Tentulia border

Dhaka, Oct 19: A Bangladeshi named Akkas Ali (35) was killed in BSF firing inside India at Tentulia border in Panchagarh.

On Wednesday morning, locals saw the body lying on the Islampur border of the upazila under the jurisdiction of 176 battalion of BSF. Deceased Akkas Ali is the son of Abdus Samad of Dhamnagach village of Tiranihat Union.

According to BGB and local sources, the locals heard the sound of several rounds of gunshots in the area of sub-pillar number 4 of main pillar 446 of Islampur border late on Tuesday. Later in the morning, the body was found across the Indian border. After receiving the news, Panchagarh 18 BGB protested and called a flag meeting.

Alamgir Hossain, Chairman of Tirnihat Union Parishad of Tentulia, said that locals saw the body of a person named Akkas Ali lying inside India. He was the father of two children. He was involved in the cattle business at the local Shalbahan market.

In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tentulia Model Police Station Abu Saeed Chowdhury said, "I have heard that a cow trader has been killed on the other side of Islampur border. On inquiry, I found out that the BSF has taken away the body."

Panchagarh 18 BGB battalion captain Lt. Colonel Zubayd Hasan said that the BSF has accepted the issue in the flag meeting. According to BSF, while cutting the barbed wire fence of the border, when the BSF came forward, a group of smugglers attacked them. BSF fired in self-defense.

He further said that the BSF handed over the body to the Indian police for post-mortem. BSF said that the body will be handed over to Bangladesh after the legal process.
