Dhaka, April 27: The government has decided to bring back the Bangladeshi citizens staying in the country safely amid the ongoing war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF).

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam announced this decision in a status on social media Facebook on Tuesday. There are about 1500 Bangladeshi citizens in Sudan.

In that post, the state minister said that it has been decided to start the process of bringing Bangladeshi citizens staying in Sudan safely back to Bangladesh through other countries. The Bangladesh Embassy in Khartoum has already started spreading this message among the Bangladeshis staying there.

Shahriar Alam also said that the law and order situation will depend on how they will travel. Everyone is requested to register and do the necessary work following the instructions of the embassy.

He said, Bangladeshi journalists are requested not to contact the embassy. Because, everyone is busy and it is better not to announce the routes for security reasons. We seek everyone's cooperation.

Earlier on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a warning advising Bangladeshi citizens to refrain from traveling to the country in view of the ongoing war situation in Sudan. Sudan, the third largest country in Africa, has been fighting since April 15 between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Force (RSF). At least four hundred people have lost their lives so far. Among them are UN staff. However, the actual death toll is believed to be much higher.

Meanwhile, after 48 hours of continuous negotiations, both sides have agreed to a ceasefire in Sudan. The 73-hour ceasefire came into effect on Monday midnight local time. The ceasefire could not be implemented despite two attempts before this.
