Bernicat Convoy Attack Bernicat's car attack: Chargesheet against nine
Dhaka, March 6: Detectives have filed a chargesheet against nine people in connection with the attack on the convoy of former US ambassador Marcia Stephens Bernicat. The Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) police recently filed the chargesheet in the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court.
The nine accused in the chargesheet are Naimul Hasan, Firoz Mahmud, Mir Amzad Hossain, Shahidul Alam Khan, Tanha alias Mujahid, Saju Islam, Rajibul Islam, Mohammad Siam and Oli Ahmed.
In the chargesheet, the investigating officer of the case mentioned that a group of leaders and activists of the local Awami League and its affiliates led by Naimul Hasan threw brickbats on the suspicion of anti-government conspiracy.
She left the scene when they chased the car of US Ambassador Marcia Stephens Bernicat. Besides, brickbats were hurled at the house of Sujan editor Badiul Alam Majumdar and the windows of the house were smashed. Badiul Alam Majumder, his wife and child were threatened with death.
It may be mentioned that on the night of August 4, 2018, Bernicat took part in a dinner at the house of Sujan editor Badiul Alam Majumdar in Mohammadpur area. A group of armed motorcyclists attacked the ambassador's car on the way back at around 11pm after dinner.
The assailants punched two members of the ambassador's security team when they were stopped as they approached the convoy. Two vehicles were hit with sticks as the convoy left. Sujan secretary Badiul Alam Majumder filed a case with Mohammadpur police station.
