Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 15: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that her government wants to convey the message to the whole world by declaring 'Joy Bangla' as the national slogan, which is at the core of all the achievements of the country, that Bengalis never bow their heads and will move forward keeping their heads up high.

She said, "This 'Joy Bangla' slogan has become everyone's slogan today and through this slogan we want to reach out to the people of the world - we are a victorious nation, we have achieved victory, we do not bow our heads, we will never bow our heads, Bengalis will continue to move across the world keeping their heads up high."

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made the remarks while addressing a function titled 'Joy Bangla Utsav' on the occasion of declaring the slogan 'Joy Bangla' as the national slogan, the main stimulus of the freedom struggle and liberation war on Monday night. She was virtually involved in the event organized by Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) at Hotel Sheraton in Banani in the capital via video conference from Ganobhaban.

Sheikh Hasina mentioned one of her strengths, her only younger sister Sheikh Rehana, who survived the tragedy of 1975, and said, "We are both the happiest today."

She expressed her gratitude to all for holding this slogan and said that it has been proved today that no sacrifice is in vain. Adviser to the Prime Minister on Private Industry and Investment Salman Fazlur Rahman and BAB Chairman Md. Nazrul Islam Majumder spoke on the occasion. The Prime Minister unveiled the cover of a book titled 'Muktidata Sheikh Mujib' (Liberator Sheikh Mujib).

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman concluded his historic speech at the Racecourse Ground (now Suhrawardy Udyan) on March 7, 1971 by uttering 'Joy Bangla'. Since then, it has become a slogan for the lives of millions of freedom fighters and freedom-loving people. 'Joy Bangla' became the inspiration for the unarmed Bengalis to snatch victory against the Pakistani forces by taking up arms and pouring fresh blood on their chests.

Bangabandhu's daughter and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that Bangabandhu took this 'Joy Bangla' slogan from the poem of Kazi Nazrul Islam.

Following a writ petition, on March 10, 2020, the High Court ruled that the slogan 'Joy Bangla' should be adopted as the national slogan of Bangladesh. At the cabinet meeting on February 20, 2022, it was decided to make 'Joy Bangla' the national slogan and on March 2, 2022, the Cabinet Division issued a notification declaring 'Joy Bangla' as the national slogan.
