Dhaka, December 9: Due to the continuous negative propaganda, unrealistic conditions, unwavering position and non-cooperation of the UN agencies, it has not been possible to involve the organization in the process of relocating the Rohingyas to Bhasanchar.

The Government of Bangladesh has continued to provide food and shelter and other logistical support to 1,642 Rohingyas under its own management.

However, efforts continue to involve other donor countries and organizations, including the United Nations, in providing humanitarian assistance to the displaced Rohingya.

The information was given at the 17th meeting of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs held at the Parliament House on Tuesday (December 6). The ministry said this in response to a statement that the UN was not involved in the Rohingya evacuation.

Chairman of the parliamentary committee Muhammad Farooq Khan said a report has been raised in the parliamentary committee on Bhasan Char.

Regarding the involvement of the United Nations, he said that 306 Rohingyas floating in the sea were taken to Bhasanchar for the first time. They expressed dissatisfaction there as they were separated from the family. They were trying to go to Malaysia with a big dream. That is why they oppose staying in Bhasanchar. So the parliamentary committee has asked them to reunite with their families in the Cox's Bazar camp.

Muhammad Farooq added that the position of the United Nations two-three months ago has changed in the last two days. The ministry said if taken by force they now say they went voluntarily and are well there. The main source of these words is those 307 people. The Rohingya were on the verge of death in the deep sea, but the UN did not come forward. Didn't even tell any other country. They just said on the telephone, you rescue. We rescued them and took them to Bhasanchar.

"We hope the United Nations will conduct its operations there, like the refugee camps in Cox's Bazar," he said. "Because, those who have gone to Bhasanchar are happy."

The ministry also informed the meeting that 22 NGOs working in Cox's Bazar have already expressed interest in providing other humanitarian assistance to the displaced Rohingyas in Bhasanchar.

In addition, representatives of the electronic and print media are conducting a massive campaign on the relocation of Rohingya to Bhasanchar. Besides, it has been proposed to take initiative to spread positive propaganda about Bhasanchar through social media and in various programs of the UN Mission. Bangladesh has set a unique precedent by building a state-of-the-art shelter for the Rohingya community.
