Dhaka, March 25: President Mohammad Abdul Hamid emphasized on harnessing the potential of information and communication technology, agriculture, horticulture and fisheries to enhance trade and investment relations between Bangladesh and Bhutan. The President made the remarks during a visit by the Prime Minister of Bhutan Dr. Lotay Tshering at Bangabhaban on Wednesday (March 24).

The President said Bangladesh and Bhutan have excellent relations in various fields including trade-investment, communication, education, cultural exchange, people-to-people contact, tourism. The two countries can harness the potential of information and communication technology, agriculture, horticulture and fisheries to enhance trade and investment relations.

He said Bhutan is a loyal friend of Bangladesh. "We are grateful to the government and people of that country for their unwavering support and cooperation in the war of liberation in 1971. Bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Bhutan are very good. Over time, this relationship is reaching new heights."

The President said the visit of the Prime Minister of Bhutan will further expand bilateral cooperation with Bangladesh in various sectors including trade and investment of Bhutan.

President Md. Abdul Hamid thanked the Prime Minister of Bhutan for attending the birth centenary and Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Father of the Nation amid the Corona epidemic. He thanked the Prime Minister of Bhutan for lighting one thousand lamps and releasing commemorative stamps in Bhutan on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth centenary.

Meanwhile, Bhutanese Prime Minister Lotay Tshering said that Bhutan has always given priority to developing relations with Bangladesh. He lauded the progress made by Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in socio-economic development, especially for women.

Later, Dr. Tshering handed over a commemorative stamp of Bhutan to President Md. Abdul Hamid on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth centenary.
