BNP chief Khaleda Zia moved to CCU as health deteriorates

Dhaka, November 15: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been admitted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) due to her deteriorating condition. She was moved to the CCU around 3:00 am on Sunday.

Regarding Khaleda Zia's condition, her personal physician and BNP vice chairman AZM Zahid Hossain said, "Madam was moved to the CCU on Saturday night."

Meanwhile, a source close to the Evercare Hospital said that Khaleda Zia underwent endoscopy after being admitted there on Saturday afternoon. Later that night she was moved from the cabin to the CCU.

Earlier, Khaleda Zia returned home on the evening of November 7 after 26 days of treatment at the hospital. Then Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain had said, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia had been advised to take advanced treatment abroad by the Medical Board of Evercare Hospital consisting of local and foreign doctors. On October 12, Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital. Later on October 25, a biopsy of the tissue taken from Khaleda Zia's body was done.

Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital in the capital on April 27 after contracting coronavirus. After 54 days of treatment, she returned to her Gulshan residence on the night of June 19.

On February 8, 2018, Khaleda Zia was sentenced to five years in prison in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.

She was first treated at the Special Jail in Old Dhaka and later at the BSMU Hospital.

Following the outbreak of coronavirus in the country, the government suspended Khaleda Zia's six-month sentence on March 25, 2020 at the request of her family. The government then extended her parole for three more terms.
