Dhaka, September 2: Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader commented that BNP itself clashes with the police for media coverage. He said this in response to questions from journalists after an international conference at Dhaka University (DU) Senate building on Friday (September 2).

Obaidul Quader said, "Whenever they (BNP) come to the streets, they themselves clash with the police to gather attention, for attention, for media coverage. So that the police attack them. They attack and fight with the police to get media coverage. Try this."

He said, "We fear that they will want to repeat the fire and terror bombings they did in 2013-14. They know that Sheikh Hasina will not be able to remove the government through elections. They are questioning this election. The government is attacking them, they are spreading such slander."

Quader said, "Their workers, who are no longer workers, have become miscreants. Is it the police's crime to go and arrest those accused of terrorist cases? Those who do bad things, those who commit crimes, even if they belong to the Awami League, are not exempted. The Prime Minister has repeatedly said this. He adopted a zero-tolerance policy in this regard."

Awami League general secretary said about BNP's resistance on the streets, "I will not attack. But if I am attacked by them, I will have to respond to defend myself. Awami League will respond with the people. If we are attacked, then I will attack back."
