Dhaka, March 11: Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that the politics of Bangladesh has proved that the democracy of this country is safe in the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as she understands the reality of the country and as BNP fails to understand it, the party is gradually getting alienated from politics.

He said this at a press conference organized at the political office of Awami League President Sheikh Hasina in Dhanmondi on Sunday afternoon.

Obaidul Quader said, "In the reality of the country's politics today, a party like BNP is gradually losing touch with reality. It has been proved that the democracy of this country is safe in the hands of Sheikh Hasina. The development and prosperity of Bangladesh is in the hands of Sheikh Hasina."

He said, "This is the reality today - as long as the country is in her (Sheikh Hasina's) hands, Bangladesh will not lose its way. Sheikh Hasina understands the reality of Bangladesh, she can understand the language of people's eyes, the language of the mind - which BNP has failed to understand. They are becoming alienated in politics because they do not understand."

Regarding local government elections including Mymensingh and Comilla City elections, Obaidul Quader said that 231 local government elections including Mymensingh and Comilla City Corporation have been completed. Where the average voter turnout is 60 percent. The election was fairly free and fair. The government did not interfere. He thanked the Election Commission and the law and order forces and congratulated the winning candidates as the polls were peaceful and fair.

Awami League General Secretary said that BNP leaders have participated in many places in this election. Some leaders have also won. There was no party symbol in this election. Even after this election, there is no justification for BNP to speak against the government about the election. They are suffering from such a dosh Nanda Ghosh-obsessed mentality and that is what they are doing.
