BNP has called a 48-hour strike across the country from Sunday

Dhaka, November 16: BNP has called for a 48-hour nationwide strike from Sunday to demand the cancellation of the election schedule for the 12th National Assembly elections.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint general secretary of the party, announced this in a virtual press conference on Thursday afternoon.

The party rejected the announcement of the election schedule and vowed to continue protesting against the government's decision to go ahead with the election process.

Several opposition parties, including the People's Rights Council (Noor-Rashed) and the Democracy Manch, have called for a 48-hour strike from Sunday in protest against the schedule.

The BNP called for a hartal the next day after the clashes with law and order forces on October 28 and subsequently announced a three-day nationwide blockade to protest the attack on their rally and the arrest of senior leaders.

The fifth phase of blockade which started from 6 am on Wednesday will continue till 6 am on Friday.

After a short break over the weekend, the BNP and its like-minded parties will observe a two-day strike to press for their demands.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has announced the schedule for the 11th National Assembly elections.

According to the fire service, miscreants set fire to 12 vehicles including buses, trucks, trains, human haulers, covered vans across the country till 9 am on Thursday.
