Dhaka, 25 February 2024 : Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has alleged that BNP is sponsoring and supporting hoarders and syndicates to create 'anarchic situation' in commodity prices.

He said, 'BNP has nurtured the syndicate, is patronizing the hoarders - will it be wrong to say so? Those who are doing it are the old syndicate of BNP.

He said these things at a press conference at the political office of the Awami League president in Dhanmondi on Saturday.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, 'BNP government was a business government. Awami League did not come to do business.

There is no reason to think that the government has given up on controlling commodity prices here.

Under no circumstances will they be exempted from the vicious cycle of various government schemes which are causing public discontent by increasing the prices of goods. The Prime Minister himself has emphatically stated that. "Currently there is a crisis in the economy", he admitted, "we are not responsible for this." As wars spread throughout the world, the impact on the economy is natural.

Prices of goods are increasing. But the government is working diligently to ensure that the price of goods is within the purchasing power of the people. The Prime Minister has instructed the ministries, everyone is working in light of it.

Obaidul Quader said, "Government has to give enough subsidy on electricity. I want to reduce this subsidy gradually. That is why coordination has become necessary. If we want to maintain the electricity facility, then we have to make the adjustment.

Referring to the fact that BNP had increased the electricity prices in Ksamta, he said, "When BNP was in power, there was load shedding for 18 hours a day and they increased electricity prices 9 times in five years." Awami League government has given 100% electricity. During the government of Sheikh Hasina, the power generation capacity has increased to 29 thousand seven hundred megawatts.
