BNP is trying to create controversy by questioning the President's initiative: Quader

Own representative, Dhaka, December 24: Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has said that BNP leaders have been trying to spoil the initiative of the President over the formation of Election Commission.

He said, "The constitutional and democratic process of forming a neutral and strong Election Commission has already started through dialogue with the political parties at the initiative of His Excellency the President." The BNP leaders have traditionally lashed out at the government for making  the move of the President questionable.

The minister said this in a press release sent to the media on Thursday.

Awami League General Secretary said, "We all know that the Election Commission is constitutionally independent. Institution. It is the sole responsibility of the Election Commission to conduct the election and ensure its smooth conduct."

He said, "During the election, all the relevant administrative arrangements, including the law and order forces, are vested in the Election Commission and they carry out their duties as per the instructions of the Election Commission. Elections are not held under the government. Elections are held under the Election Commission. The government only cooperates with the Election Commission in this case."

The Road Transport Minister said that the government led by Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina would sincerely support the President's initiative to form a neutral and strong election commission. He said, Proof of this they have repeatedly shown since coming to power.

Obaidul Quader said, "The main obstacle to a fair election is the certainty that BNP wants the to win the election by any means and to seize power through the back door."
