Own representative, Dhaka, December 24: Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has said that BNP leaders have been trying to spoil the initiative of the President over the formation of Election Commission.
He said, "The constitutional and democratic process of forming a neutral and strong Election Commission has already started through dialogue with the political parties at the initiative of His Excellency the President." The BNP leaders have traditionally lashed out at the government for making the move of the President questionable.
The minister said this in a press release sent to the media on Thursday.
Awami League General Secretary said, "We all know that the Election Commission is constitutionally independent. Institution. It is the sole responsibility of the Election Commission to conduct the election and ensure its smooth conduct."
He said, "During the election, all the relevant administrative arrangements, including the law and order forces, are vested in the Election Commission and they carry out their duties as per the instructions of the Election Commission.
