BNP leader and former MP Salahuddin among seven arrested in attack on police

Dhaka, August 4: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Intelligence Division (DB) has arrested seven leaders and activists of various levels including BNP's commercial affairs secretary and former MP Salah Uddin Ahmed in four cases of attack on police and vandalism and burning of vehicles in Matuail of the capital.

They were arrested from Jatrabari area of the capital on Thursday afternoon. A responsible officer of DB Wari Division said that Salah Uddin Ahmed along with seven BNP leaders and activists at various levels have been arrested in a case filed at Jatrabari police station in the capital.

Earlier, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (DB) Mohammad Haroon Or Rashid told reporters that a few days ago, Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, BNP leaders and activists attacked the police and obstructed the work of the police during the sit-in programme at the entrance of Dhaka without the permission of the police. Three buses were set on fire. Four cases have been registered in Jatrabari police station of the capital in this incident. Salahuddin is the number one accused in those two cases. He is accused in the remaining two cases as well. For that reason DB Wari department arrested him. Legal action has been taken against him.

Earlier in the afternoon, Salah Uddin Ahmed's son, Acting Member Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP, Tanveer Ahmed Robin, complained that his father was picked up by law enforcement forces from Jatrabari (Hanif Udalsad Road) in the capital on his way home after attending the court at around 1.30 pm on Thursday.

Meanwhile, pro-BNP lawyers claimed that six other people besides Salah Uddin Ahmed were arrested on their way back from the court on Thursday afternoon. Pro-BNP lawyer Roknuzzaman Souza claimed that Salah Uddin went to the High Court to seek anticipatory bail on Thursday. Seven people including Salah Uddin were arrested on the way back from there.
