BNP leader Nipun Roy arrested for plotting violence

Dhaka, March 29: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Advocate Nipun Roy Chowdhury, a member of the BNP Central Executive Committee and member secretary of the Women and Child Rights Forum, on charges of plotting and conspiring to set a bus on fire in the capital. Her accomplice Arman (44) was also arrested at the time.

Nipun Roy Chowdhury and her accomplices were arrested on Sunday (March 28) afternoon from their home in the capital's Rayerbazar.

RAB law and media director Lt. Colonel Ashiq Billah said the two were arrested on charges of planning and conspiracy to sabotage a bus in the capital. The RAB official also said that a case against Nipun Roy Chowdhury was being handed over to the police station.

Meanwhile, the party has expressed concern over the arrest of BNP executive committee member Advocate Nipun Roy Chowdhury. BNP office secretary Syed Emran Saleh Prince expressed the concern at a press conference at the party's Naya Paltan office on Sunday (March 28) evening.

"We are deeply concerned that a large number of white-clad DBs entered the house of Advocate Nipun Roy Chowdhury, a member of the BNP National Executive Committee and member secretary of the Women and Children's Rights Forum, and took her away without a warrant," he said. "So far, various police stations and DB offices have been searched, but no information has been received."

On the other hand, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has demanded the release of Advocate Nipun Roy Chowdhury. He made the demand in a statement issued to the media on Sunday (March 28) evening.

In a statement, the BNP secretary general said, "In the last few days, especially in the last two days, government law enforcement and Chhatra League-Juba League have carried out massacres in different parts of the country including Dhaka, Chittagong and Brahmanbaria."

He added, "Advocate Nipun Roy Chowdhury, a member of the BNP National Executive Committee and member secretary of the Women and Children's Rights Forum, was arrested from her home in Dhaka."
