Dhaka, December 14: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas have been jailed. On Tuesday (December 13), a hearing was held on behalf of two BNP leaders seeking division. In the hearing, the lawyer of the state party informed the High Court.

Later, after going through the relevant information and the copy of the order, the court fixed Wednesday (December 14) as the date for the order. A bench comprising Justice KM Kamrul Quader and Justice Muhammad Ali of the High Court fixed this date for the order.

On behalf of the government, Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar informed the court about the execution of the division of the top two leaders of BNP. BNP leaders advocate AJ Muhammad Ali and barrister Kaiser Kamal applied to file a written order in support of the DAG's statement regarding the execution of the division, and the court granted it and fixed it for the next order on Wednesday at 12 noon.

State lawyer Deputy Attorney General Barrister ABM Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar told reporters, "We have informed the court that Mirza Fakhrul and Mirza Abbas have been given division in prison since Tuesday (December 13). We have also presented the relevant documents to the court. That is why their writ petition is withdrawn. But the lawyers of BNP want to be sure whether Mirza Fakhrul and Mirza Abbas have actually been given division or not. That's why the court fixed Wednesday for the order."

Earlier on Tuesday morning, Mirza Fakhrul and Mirza Abbas were filed by their wives. Two separate writs were filed on behalf of the two in the respective branches of the High Court. Mirza Fakhrul's wife Rahat Ara Begum filed a writ seeking prison division. And his wife Afroza Abbas filed a writ seeking prison division for Mirza Abbas.

Speaking about the writ, their lawyer Qaiser Kamal said, "Mirza Fakhrul and Mirza Abbas are both former ministers and members of Parliament. Therefore, according to law, they are entitled to division facilities in jail. However, the jail authorities ignored it and undermined their constitutional and legal rights. Therefore, two separate Writ has been issued."
