Dhaka, October 22: Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has said that BNP leaders, who have failed to meet the expectations of a strong and responsible opposition party, are playing old records to hide their incompetence.

He said the Sheikh Hasina government also wants a strong opposition party in the country. The BNP is now roaming in the media and virtual world without going around the people. Obaidul Quader said this at a press conference held at his residence on Thursday morning.

The Awami League general secretary said the people also want an opposition party to understand the language of the eyes and the language of the minds of the people, who have the ability to carry out political programs, who will stand by the people in their perils and play a responsible role and constructively criticize the government. He said the BNP leaders are now repeating the old allegations without getting any new statements.

Calling on the BNP to speak on behalf of the people without spreading rumors and propaganda, Obaidul Quader said, "Forgetting the responsibility of the opposition party, the BNP has now become an irresponsible and envious political party."

"The BNP leaders are now performing official duties, not politics," he said.

Regarding the statement of the BNP leaders, the Awami League general secretary said, "The people of the country know that Sheikh Hasina and the Awami League stand by the people in the face of any misfortune."

He said the BNP did not stand by the people but only spread rumours in the media. The opportunistic character and lust for power of the BNP is now clearer to the people.

Obaidul Quader called upon the people of the country not to be distracted by rumours and propaganda.

He also urged Facebook and YouTube authorities to take effective steps to prevent its misuse.
