BNP looking for dark alley to come to power: Prime Minister

Dhaka, Jan 17: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that BNP did not participate in the January 7 elections due to the fear of defeat. They have been repeatedly rejected by the people and are looking for dark alleys to come to power. They know people have rejected them. That is why they do not want to participate in the elections. They are looking for various ways to come to power by subverting the electoral process.

She said this while addressing expatriate Awami League leaders and activists at Ganabhaban on Tuesday.

Criticizing the BNP, the Prime Minister said that now it is avoiding the path of light in the election and looking towards the path of darkness. The conspiracy is still going on. They are now demanding the annulment of the election.

Referring to the 2008 election, she said that the BNP-Jamaat alliance won only 30 seats in that election. On the other hand, Bangladesh Awami League alone got 233 seats. Since then they do not want to come to any election. They are setting fire to buses, launches and trains and burning people. The more terrorist acts and arson they commit, the more people will reject them.

She further said, "They know that the people have boycotted the BNP-Jamaat alliance. They do not want to choose for that. That's why they find ways to get to power illegally by disrupting elections. They find the dark alleys and lose the path of the shining election and the people. They lock the office themselves, break it again themselves. Again feeling proud that the key has been lost. Where did the key go? The lock was given to them. They will lose their keys, lose their keys and lose their way. They have become wayward travellers."
