Own correspondent, Dhaka, December 11: Awami League General Secretary and Minister for Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader has said that the aim of BNP is to destabilize the country by making the treatment of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia an issue. He made the remarks at a briefing at his residence on Friday.
Obaidul Quader asked the BNP leaders "Who has set an example of humanity in the politics of this country?"
He said that the BNP wanted to assassinate Sheikh Hasina on August 21 using state apparatus. But then standing in Parliament, the then Prime Minister Begum Zia said that Sheikh Hasina took the grenade in her vanity bag. Was it a statement made by a leader of a civilized country?
The general secretary of Awami League also said that when Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina went to console Begum Zia after the death of her child, they closed the door on her- can any civilized country's head of a political party make that inhuman and rude behavior? What will the BNP secretary general’s answer be, he asked.
Obaidul Quader said, "BNP secretary general is the one who cheated the people's vote by getting elected as a Member of Parliament, who did not go to the Parliament while his party is in the Parliament. Who has done such double standard politics? Which civilized country's political party can? I hope you will answer."
He asked who was the masterminds and beneficiaries of the assassination of Bangabandhu and his family, who tried to assassinate Sheikh Hasina? Who carried out grenade attacks?
He said, despite not having her birthday on 15th August, they celebrated the fake birthday of Begum Zia and hurt the feelings of Sheikh Hasina and Awami League leaders and activists. On the other side, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set the highest example of humanity for Begum Zia.
