Dhaka, December 6: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq said BNP will not get permission to hold a rally on the streets in the capital. He also said that BNP has not yet proposed the name of any place other than Suhrawardy Udyan for the rally.

The DMP Commissioner said these in response to questions from journalists on Monday (December 5) regarding the decision of the venue for the BNP's Dhaka Divisional Assembly on December 10.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon, a BNP delegation held a meeting with the DMP Commissioner to discuss the venue of the rally. After that meeting, in front of the main gate of the DMP headquarters, Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP convener Aman Ullah Aman said, "We have been saying from the beginning that we will hold a rally in Nayapaltan." We have discussed this with the police several times. Meanwhile, the police has given us a letter allowing us to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan. We went to discuss this on Sunday. BNP Publicity Secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and a senior police officer have been asked to discuss and resolve this matter. They will discuss about the venue. This discussion can continue from Monday). The venue will be finalized after that. However, BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas said that the party has decided to hold the public meeting on December 10 in Nayapaltan.

Speaking to reporters at his residence in Shahjahanpur of the capital on Monday afternoon, Abbas said that the police search post in front of Khaleda Zia's house, the arrest and harassment of activists, and the siege of my house are all connected. The December 10 mass rally cannot be suppressed by surrounding the house. The government is doing all this for fear of disrupting the rally.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday evening, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Media and Public Relations Department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Md. Farooq Hossain said that the BNP is now looking for a new venue for the rally after not getting permission for the December 10 Dhaka divisional mass meeting in front of the party office in Nayapaltan.

He said that BNP was not offered a new venue by DMP. We are allowed in Suhrawardy Udyan. They are the ones talking about the new venue. But we hope BNP will hold their rally at Suhrawardy Udyan.

He also said that permission has been given in Suhrawardy Udyan. Because, from our point of view, the park is the most secure for security. We have requested BNP to hold the December 10 rally at Suhrawardy Udyan. We will take all necessary steps to provide security support for the December 10 rally.
