Own Correspondent, Dhaka, April 15: After being closed for two years due to Corona pandemic, Baishakhi Mela (fair) has started on the premises of Bangla Academy with a combination of small and cottage industries.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun inaugurated the fair on Thursday afternoon. On the occasion of Bengali New Year, Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) and Bangla Academy have organized this 10-day fair.

BSCIC Chairman Md. Mahbubor Rahman delivered the welcome address at the inaugural function. State Minister for Culture KM Khalid and Secretary to the Ministry of Industries Zakia Sultana were present as special guests. Poet Muhammad Nurul Huda, Director General of Bangla Academy presided over the function.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun said, "Bangladesh is rich in industry with our thousand year old tradition. There but a lot of what we lost we got back through Baishakhi Mela again. Baishakhi Mela is his match today. Here I am highlighting the patronage of such culture, as well as the economic activities that have spread from the village to the city."

Regarding the Mangal Procession, he said, "By challenging militancy and religion-based politics, today we are able to conduct the Mars parade again all over Bangladesh. Through this I am expressing the promise of secularism. After all, no matter where we live, we are Bengalis irrespective of race, religion and caste."

On the occasion, State Minister KM Khalid said that political and economic emancipation failed unless cultural emancipation took place. We have the Ministry of Industry for economic liberation, we have the Sanskrit Ministry for cultural liberation. One brick works with stone, the other works with heart. The combination of these two is very difficult. We are working in that place.
