Dhaka, Sept 4: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that it has been possible to reduce the number of border killings to a large extent in the last one year.

He gave this information during the written question and answer session at the National Parliament session on Sunday. Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury chaired the session at 5 pm.

In response to the question of Awami League Member of Parliament Haji Md. Selim, the Home Minister said that due to the good relationship and mutual cooperation between BGB and BSF, it has been possible to reduce border killings to a large extent in recent years, especially in the last one year. However, when a Bangladeshi citizen was killed at the border, BGB sent a written protest to BSF. Along with this, a strong protest was expressed through the flag meeting. At the same time, legal action has been taken against the responsible persons.

Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal also said that the information of human traffickers is being stored through the Crime Data Management System (CDMS) software.

He said that the current government is determined to prevent and suppress serious and organized crime like human trafficking. In order to effectively prevent various crimes related to human trafficking inside and outside the country, various steps have been taken in coordination with the law and order forces of the country.

In response to a question from M. Abdul Latif, a member of parliament of the government party, the home minister said that Bangladesh has a memorandum of understanding with the neighbouring country India for mutual cooperation in matters related to the crime of human trafficking, especially the repatriation and rehabilitation of women and children. Various activities are being undertaken, including strict legal measures against human traffickers in the Prevention and Suppression of Human Trafficking Act, 2012, strict surveillance at border areas and international airports, quick rescue, protection and rehabilitation of victims. As a result, it is possible to effectively prevent various crimes related to human trafficking in the country.
