Brahmanberia incident: Case filed against Hefajat leader

A case has been filed under the Digital Security Act naming 14 people, including Hefazat-e-Islam district branch president Maulana Sajidur Rahman and general secretary Maulana Mubarak Ullah, in connection with the Brahmanbaria violence.

Another 150 people have been charged in the case.

On Saturday (May 1) evening, Brahmanbaria Sadar-3 MP (MP) Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury filed the case as a plaintiff. Advocate Abdul Jabbar Mamun, his lawyer and legal secretary of the city Awami League, filed the case on behalf of the MP at Sadar Model Police Station.

Apart from the president-general secretary of the district custody, the names of 12 people have been mentioned in the case. They are Maulana Ashraful Hossain Tapu, Borhan Uddin Kasemi, Maulana Ershad Ullah, Maulana Noman Al Habib, Mominul Hasan Taj, Maulana Enamul Haque Maulana Abdul. Besides, one to one and a half more unidentified persons have been accused.

In the details of the case, Brahmanbaria Sadar-3 MP and District Awami League President R M Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury mentioned that the infernal violence in Brahmanbaria from March 26 to March 26 centered on the golden jubilee of Bangladesh independence and the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Branch leaders and workers. They conspired and plotted to overthrow the legitimate government by carrying out violence. As a part of this, he used various flammable substances including firearms and gunpowder and caused terrible damage in Brahmanbaria.

The written allegation further said that there was tension among the people by organizing cyber terrorism on various Facebook pages, IDs and news portals under the direction of Maulana Sajidur Rahman, president of the district branch of Hefazat-e-Islam and Maulana Mubarak Ullah, general secretary. As a result, the law and order situation in Brahmanbaria deteriorated.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station Muhammad Shahjahan said the case has been accepted. The next step will be taken at the direction of the higher authority.
