BRTC bus crushes and kills four people in Rangpur

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 7 February 2024: Four people were killed when a BRTC bus ran over them in Ranir Bandar Suihari Bazar on the Dinajpur-Rangpur highway. Local people blocked the road in this incident. The accident took place at Ranir Bandar Suihari Bazar at the mouth of Khansama Road on Tuesday at 6:30 am.

The names and addresses of the deceased are not yet known. However, two of them belong to the indigenous Chakma community. They are said to be honey traders. The remaining two are believed to be locals. Their identities could not be found as the bodies were dismembered.

Local people blocked the road at the spot till 9:30 a.m. demanding speed breakers and permanent traffic control. Police and local administration are present there and working to normalize the traffic. Hundreds of vehicles are stuck on both sides.

It is known that a BRTC bus was going towards Rangpur from Dinajpur Dasmile Mor at 6:30 am. Ranir Bandar lost control on the way and crushed some people standing on the side of the road at the mouth of Khansama Road in Suihari Bazar. Four people were killed on the spot. Their names are not yet known.

Local volunteer Fazlur Rahman said that two people are from Chakma community. They are said to be honey traders. The remaining two are believed to be locals. Their identities could not be found as the bodies were dismembered. Inspector (Investigation) of Chiribandar Police Station Zakir Sikder confirmed the death of 4 people in the road accident.
