Own correspondent, Dhaka, 16 September 2023: Bus passengers will be able to cross the Dhaka Elevated Expressway from tomorrow Monday. BRTC is going to start this operation with four pairs of buses. Tajul Islam, chairman of the company, told the media this information.

BRTC is the first local bus service to run on the elevated expressway, thus those who do not have their own vehicles will be able to board Dhaka's first elevated expressway. Passengers do not have to pay extra fare for this. By paying normal transportation fare, they will be able to reach their destination faster.

Tajul Islam said, "We used to have many cars on this route. Now 8 buses will run from three depots on the elevated expressway. But these will be controlled from a depot. Passengers can travel from both ends of the expressway for now. BRTC will pick up southbound passengers by bus from Uttara Jasimuddin, Airport Railway Station and Kawla. After that, Farmgate will go down through the expressway in one pull.

On the other hand, after dropping passengers at Farmgate, they will pick up airport-bound passengers at Bangabandhu Roundabout in Khejurbagan area of Sangsad Bhaban, adjacent to Manik Mia Avenue. Northbound passengers can board from Khejurbagan Roundabout, Khamarbari or Vijay Samari.

Tajul Islam said, "Currently, the toll is not added to the rent. Later we will drive the car at the fare which will be added to the toll fixed by the government. Since we are a government organization, the aim is to serve the people, so now the first task is to start the bus.'' And the fare for 17 km up to Jasimuddin has been fixed at Tk 40. The fare is 2 taka 45 paisa per kilometer. Due to the e-ticketing system, there will not be an opportunity to charge more fare.

He said, "If public transport runs on the elevated expressway, passengers will take less time to cross the road. But there is only one drawback - there is no scope for fluctuation in the middle. A decision will be taken to increase the number of transport after looking at the response of the passengers and the overall situation.
