Rangpur Accident Bus accident in Rangpur kills 6, injures 40
Dhaka, July 18: A head-on collision between two speeding buses killed at least six people and injured 40 others in Mithapukur upazila in Rangpur, reports said.
The accident took place around 8 am on Sunday in the upazila’s Baldipukur area.
According to reports, the mishap took place after the driver of one of the buses fell asleep at the wheel.
Amirul Islam, the OC of Mithapukur police station, said five of the injured were critical and undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
A joint team of police and fire service were conducting rescue operations at the spot, the cop added.
The six deceased have been identified as passengers of the Rangpur-bound Selfie Paribahan. They died on the spot after their bus collided head-on with the Dhaka-bound Joana Paribahan bus.
According to the RMC Hospital’s emergency department, 30 of the 40 injured were released after they were given first aid.
“But six critically injured people have been admitted to the hospital,” the Dhaka Tribune quoted Dr Shamsul from the emergency department as saying.
