Dhaka, December 13: The Cabinet has directed the concerned to strengthen the cyber security of the country. The order was given in an unscheduled discussion at the regular meeting of the cabinet on Monday.

The Cabinet meeting was held at the Prime Minister's Office under the chairmanship of PM Sheikh Hasina. Later in the afternoon, Cabinet Secretary Khandkar Anwarul Islam announced the decision of the meeting in a press conference at the secretariat.

Khandaker Anwarul Islam said, in the cabinet meeting, more emphasis has been asked on cyber security. The issue of the security of the national database has been asked to be looked at very seriously. Besides, the project which has been taken up for the next submarine cable has been directed to complete the work quickly. He said that in all the places where gas and oil pipelines have been taken, they have been asked to finish the work quickly and ensure supply so that the transportation cost is not incurred and gas and oil can be supplied quickly.

In response to the question why the cyber security system has been asked to be strengthened now, the Cabinet Secretary said that this issue has been seen for the last two to three years. Now more emphasis is given on the matter and modern materials are asked to be ensured.

The Cabinet Secretary said that the draft of the Government Services (Amendment) Act was approved in the meeting. If it is passed by the National Assembly, the Finance Department's approval will be required for the financial affairs of autonomous, self-governing institutions like government institutions.

He said that in 2018, the Government Service Act was passed in the National Parliament. But one thing was unclear. That is, the authority of the financial affairs of government institutions was the finance department. But autonomous institutions or legislative bodies, such as the Anti-Corruption Commission, were not clear about the finances of local government institutions. For this, the matter was mentioned by the Finance Department.

He said the finance department will also have authority over the financial affairs of autonomous bodies or legislative bodies. It will not happen if an organization decides its own salary and allowances. That is to say, any financial matter has to be exempted from the finance department.

In response to a question, the Cabinet Secretary said that autonomous universities will also fall under this. They were there before. But after the passage of this law, the matter was unclear.
