Cabinet Secretary informs Speaker about swearing in of newly elected President

Dhaka, April 12: Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain has informed Speaker of the National Assembly Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury about the day and time of the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected President. The Cabinet Secretary met the Speaker at her office in Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday and informed the Speaker about the oath.

The newly elected president will be sworn in at 11 am on April 24. Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury will administer the oath. Meanwhile, senior officials of the Parliament Secretariat were present.

The newly elected President Md. Shahabuddin will replace the current President Md. Abdul Hamid as the 22nd President of the country. A press release of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat said on Tuesday that Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain paid a courtesy call on Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury at his office. During the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary informed the Speaker about the date of the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected President.

Md. Shahabuddin was elected to the post of President on February 13. He was the candidate of the ruling Awami League. As there was no other candidate for this position except him, he was declared elected as the President on that day by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal.

Md. Shahabuddin was born in Pabna in 1949. He served as active worker and president of Pabna District Chhatra League during his student life. He actively participated in the Great Liberation War of 1971. Joined BCS (Judicial) Cadre in 1982. He retired as a District and Sessions Judge in 2006 after serving in various positions as a judge. From 2011 to 2016, Md. Shahabuddin served as the Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
