Dhaka, January 27: Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen has commented that there is no short-cut answer to the infiltration of Rohingyas in Bangladesh.

"We cannot kill them (Rohingyas)," he said. The minister said this in response to a question from reporters after the Deputy Commissioner (DC) conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Thursday.

Dr. Abdul Momen said, "This is a very critical time. Our policy is that we will not take even one Rohingya. But we cannot kill them. Our Ministry of Home Affairs has taken a position that we will not take them. When something comes, I will see. Let's try how to take care of that. We don't have a shortcut answer."

He said, "We told the Myanmar government, you don't send any of your people. But they are also out of power, because there is conflict. Houses are being burned, so they are fleeing in fear."

Dr. Momen commented that he still does not know the solution to the Rohingya problem.

He said, "Our priority is that they go back to their homeland. This is our number one priority. They have to be repatriated. Myanmar has also said that they will take the Rohingyas. But six years have passed, not a single person has gone. There is a lack of sincerity among them. But we are doing our part. Keep trying. I don't have a solution."

In response to a question about border killings, the foreign minister said, "It has been decided at the highest level by the Prime Ministers of the two countries that not a single person will die on the border. But still accidents happen. I always say, my five fingers are not equal, if one person is killed, we get bad name. The highest of the two countries At the stage we decided, not a single person will die."
