Dhaka, March 1: Police have filed a case against 47 leaders and activists of Jatiotabadi Chatra Dal following a clash in front of the National Press Club, demanding the repeal of the Digital Security Act and protesting the death of writer Mushtaq Ahmed in jail.

The case was filed at Shahbagh Police Station on Sunday night after the incident, OC Mamun-ur-Rashid said.

He said the accused had been charged with beating the police, obstructing government work and vandalism. The statement mentioned the names of 47 leaders and activists, while 200 to 250 more people have been named as anonymous. Among them, 12 people have been arrested. However, the OC of Shahbagh Police Station did not reveal the names of the accused.

Police in riot gear stormed a rally on Sunday, removing hundreds of protesters by truck. When the leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal started throwing stones, the area in front of the National Press Club turned into a battlefield. Later some people were also arrested from there.

OC Mamun-ur-Rashid said several people, including police, were injured during the clash. The windows of the temporary police box adjacent to the press club were also vandalized.
