Dhaka, Oct 18, 2021: A case has been filed for attacking police following Friday prayers in and around Baitul Mukarram Mosque in Dhaka.

Two cases were filed at Paltan and Ramna police stations on Saturday (October 18). The plaintiff in both cases is the police.

The statement of case stated that 'sabotage, vandalism, destruction of state resources, obstruction of government work and attack on police in Paltan police station area due to the incident in Comilla'. Four thousand people have been charged. A total of 21 people have been arrested so far in the two police stations.

Earlier, hundreds of worshipers marched from Baitul Mukarram to the Nightingale junction in Kakrail after Friday prayers, but were stopped by police. At this time their clash with the police started. Protesters fired brickbats at police. Police later fired tear gas and dispersed them.

Nine people, including five policemen, were injured in the incident.

Regarding the case, the duty officer of Paltan police station said that Amir Jafrullah Khan, a member of the Khilafat movement, has been made the number one accused in the case. In addition, the names of 10 more members of this group have been mentioned and two and a half thousand unidentified people have been accused.

Ramna OC Monirul said 10 people were arrested from the spot in connection with the sabotage at Nightingale and Kakrail intersections. A case has been filed against a total of one and a half thousand unidentified accused in Ramna police station with the names of these 10 people mentioned.
