CEC pays homage at National Memorial

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 1: Newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Kazi Habibul Awal, visited the National Memorial in Savar to pay homage to the heroes of the country.

CEC paid his tribute at 10 am on Tuesday (March 1). Four Election Commissioners, Begum Rashida Sultana, Retired Brigadier General Ahsan Habib Khan and former Senior Secretary Md Alamgir, Anisur Rahman were also present on the occasion.

They came to pay their respects after taking charge. After paying his tribute, the new Chief Election Commissioner signed the visitors' book. Apart from district and upazila administrations, various officials of the Election Commission were also present that time.

Earlier on Monday, the new Election Commissioners, including the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), paid homage to the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi.

At 4:15 pm, the commissioners led by CEC Kazi Habibul Awal paid homage to the portrait of Bangabandhu at No. 32, Dhanmondi. EC officials including Election Commissioner Rasheda Sultana Emily, Brigadier General Ahsan Habib Khan, Md. Alamgir, Anisur Rahman, EC Secretary Md. Humayun Kabir Khandaker were present on the occasion. Later, books on Bangabandhu were presented to the new commissioners by the Bangabandhu Museum.

Election commissioners including CEC came to the EC office on Monday morning, the first day after taking oath. EC officials greeted them warmly. After the exchange of views with the EC officials, the new election commissioners met the media.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said the level playing field could not be created by the commission alone. Political leadership comes from Awami League, BNP and Jatiya Party. If we turn away, the distance will increase. Some of the political parties have to come to the discussion without arrogance.
