Dhaka, September 11: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Mufti Ragib Ahsan, chairman of the Ehsan Group, and his associates in Pirojpur on charges of embezzling Tk 17,000 crore.

Major Raisul Azam, deputy director of RAB's legal and media wing, said on Friday (September 10th) morning that Ehsan Real Estate and Builders Limited in Pirojpur had been accused of cheating thousands of customers. Customers have accused the group of embezzling Tk 17,000 crore, at a press conference at the National Press Club on Sunday (September 5).

It is learned that Ragib Ahsan and his relatives did not buy the land in the name of the organization with the money of the customer. He secretly embezzled money by selling 90 percent of those lands. Ehsan Group's 16 out of 17 companies have disappeared. Ehsan Group Chairman Mufti Ragib Ahsan and his associates have been arrested on the basis of these allegations.

According to the victims at the press conference, Mufti Ragib Ahsan, managing director of Ehsan Real Estate and Builders, launched a savings account for the people of the area. He promised to give monthly profit on the deposited money and deposited the money with various documents including passbook. He took money from the people of the area and stopped after giving monthly profit for a few months. Then time passed by and at one stage, he started procrastinating on various excuses. Thus, after continuing like this for about three years, the company was shut down without refunding any money.

In the middle of the night in 2019, the head office of Ehsan Group was locked on the fourth floor of Sher-e-Bangla Public Library. It was later learned that the company removed all their documents before the office closed.
