Dhaka, January 27: Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique urged people of all religions to be vigilant so that communal powers do not rise to the fore.

He made this call at the Saraswati Puja organized by the Supreme Court Officials-Workers Puja Celebration Parishad on Thursday.

The Chief Justice said, one thing must be remembered, we are Bengalis. Some of them are Muslims, some are Hindus, some are Buddhists, some are Christians. Our only identity is that we are Bengalis. The nature of this country has been determined by the liberation war. It is the country of Bengalis, it is the country of Bangladeshis. People of this country believe in religious neutrality. It is nobody's mercy.

Mentioning that the constitution guarantees secularism, he said, "Our constitution has mentioned how the laws of Bangladesh and the culture of Bangladesh will be. It also mentions who's status will be. We are neither majority nor minority. We are all citizens of this country. We all know Bengalis. No one should think of himself as belonging to a minority community. There is no reason to ever think about it. He urged everyone to take a strong stand against corruption, money laundering."

The Chief Justice said, if we follow the constitution of Bangladesh then we have to believe that everyone in this country is Bengali. Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, whose religion we will observe. Our Prophet of Islam said in the farewell Hajj speech that you should not exaggerate your religion. Many nations have been destroyed due to excesses in religion. Let us keep the message of religion and we will be honest, we will not approach corruption, we will not do money laundering. We will build this country together with people of all religions. We will not allow any communal power to stand tall.

Urging to continue spending cuts due to the Ukraine-Russia war, the chief justice said, "We will follow the policy of spending cuts. We will be frugal."

Judges of the Appellate and High Court Divisions of the Supreme Court were present in the event.
