Chiefs of three forces hold courtesy meeting with outgoing President

Dhaka, April 19: The chiefs of the three forces held a farewell meeting with President Md. Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban on Tuesday.

Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, Navy Chief Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Sheikh Abdul Hannan met President Hamid at Bangabhaban.

President Hamid will hand over the responsibility to the newly elected President Md. Shahabuddin at 11 am on April 24. He served as President for a long period of more than ten years, including a second term.

President's Press Secretary Md. Zainal Abedin said that during the meeting, the Chiefs of Army, Navy and Air Force informed the President about the various activities of their respective forces. During the meeting, the three army chiefs gratefully recalled the President's cooperation in the expansion and development of the Bangladesh Armed Forces. They thanked him (the President) for his guidance and support in fulfilling his duties.

The Head of State said that the members of the armed forces have brought honor to the country through their activities at the national and international levels. Referring to the armed forces as a symbol of our pride and heritage, the President said, besides protecting the sovereignty of the country, they have always stood by the people in any need, including various natural disasters. The President mentioned that by participating in the peacekeeping forces abroad, they have brightened the image of Bangladesh in the outside world. Abdul Hamid wished the armed forces all success. At this time, the concerned secretaries of Bangabhaban were present.
