Dhaka, May 12: Five people, including a child, died on the way to Banglabazar from Shimulia Ghat on a ferry despite restrictions on Eid pilgrimage due to the corona epidemic. At least 20 people fell ill. The incident took place on Wednesday (May 12) at noon on the way from Shimulia in Munshiganj to Banglabazar in Madaripur.

Shibchar Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Miraj Hossain told Dhaka Post that the five dead included two women, two men and a child.

The child's name is Anshar Madbar (12). His home is in Naria upazila of Shariatpur. He is the son of Gias Uddin Madbar of Kalika Prasad village in Naria. The names of the other four are not yet known.

According to the ghat sources, the child Anshar Madbar fell ill and died at the ferry pontoon due to the pressure of the passengers when the ferry named Shahparan crowded at the ferry terminal number 3 of Banglabazar at noon.

Then another ferry named Enayetpuri left Shimulia. But the ferry left Shimulia Ghat about three hours late. Two women and two men died in the ferry due to extreme heat and pressure from passengers. At least 20 people have fallen ill due to the heat.
