Own Correspondent, Dhaka, August 2: Vaccination programme for children aged 5 to 11 years is starting this week. In the beginning, this vaccination will be given in some schools of Dhaka city, and even it will be given in stages throughout the country, said Director General of the Department of Health Professor Dr. Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam.

He said these things while visiting the capital's Kurmitola General Hospital on Monday (August 1). Dr. Abul Bashar said that all the preparations have been completed for the vaccination of the children. We have enough stocks of vaccines. When Health Minister Zahid Maleque comes to the country, we will start the vaccination program by fixing the date.

The Director General said that the areas of Dhaka where the number of Covid infections and deaths are high will be vaccinated first. Regarding registration of children's vaccinations, he had earlier told Dhaka Post, "I was told by the Education Minister that the protection apps have been opened for registration of children. Registration has already started."

Meanwhile, on July 28, an office order of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education said that the age limit of students will be 5 years to 11 years (11 years 364 days). Students in this age range must be registered on the Suraksha app/Suraksha website to receive the vaccine.

It also states that students who do not have a 17-digit birth registration number must get a 17-digit birth registration number. In this regard, the head of the concerned institution and the parents will confirm the matter.

Meanwhile, 15 lakh 2 thousand 400 doses of Pfizer vaccine specially prepared for children aged 5 to 11 years have arrived in the country. Bangladesh received the vaccine under the Covax facility.
