China plane crash: Sheikh Hasina's condolence message to Xi Jinping

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 23: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sent a message of condolence to Chinese President Xi Jinping over the plane crash with 132 people on board in southwestern China.

In a condolence message signed by the Prime Minister on Tuesday (March 22), she wrote, "I am deeply saddened by the news of the tragic crash of a China Eastern Airlines plane carrying 132 people on Monday (March 21) in southern China. Praying for the victims."

In her condolence message, she said, "On behalf of the people and government of Bangladesh and on my own behalf, I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. In this time of sorrow, we stand by the Government and people of China, our faithful and strategic partners. Because they are dealing with the situation with courage and determination."

Meanwhile, more than 24 hours after the accident, bodies of the passengers have not been found yet. The relatives of the victims are waiting. However, it is thought that none of the passengers and crew survived. About 2,000 rescue workers are conducting search and rescue operations at the scene.

There were 123 passengers and nine crew members on board the crashed China Eastern Airlines flight MU5735 which had departed from Kunming for Guangzhou city. Immediately after the accident, President Xi Jinping instructed all concerned to continue all efforts to rescue the passengers, and to initiate investigation into the cause of the crash.
