Chittagong city waterlogged after 3 days of continuous rain

Dhaka, August 7: Most of the areas of Chittagong city have been waterlogged due to continuous rain for the last three days. Water has entered the ground floor of houses, shops and businesses. People from all walks of life have suffered. Thousands of families have become watertight. Many roads are blocked due to water accumulation on the roads. People have to walk to their destinations.

The city's Chawkbazar, Katalganj, Kapasgola, Badurtala, Shulakbahar, Bahaddarhat, Muradpur, Mohammadpur, various areas of Baklia, KB Aman Ali Road, Chandgaon's Shamser Para, Faridar Para, Pathainagoda, Munshipukur Par, Halishahar, Agrabad CDA, Shantibag residential area, Chhotapole, Numerous streets of the city including Firingibazar, Riaz Uddin Bazar, Tin Pole Matha, the road in front of Drydock on Airport Road were submerged in water. Apart from this, traders said that there has been damage due to water entering the wholesale market of consumer goods in Khatunganj.

Speaking in Muradpur area, Md. Shafi said, in the morning, water rose up to the waist in the western part of Bahaddarhat flyover. Many cars were stuck in water. Alauddin, a pedestrian in Katalganj area around 3:30 pm, said that the water rises here only when it rains a little. Water entered houses and shops.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Office said that 218 ml of rainfall was recorded in Chittagong in the 24 hours before 9 am on Sunday. This is the highest rainfall record this season.

Ujjwal Kanti Pal, assistant meteorologist of Patenga Meteorological Office, said moderate to heavy rains are occurring in Chittagong and surrounding areas due to low pressure. There is a risk of landslides.
