Chittagong Police registers case after Facebook post goes viral

Dhaka, April 22: After seeing the Facebook post of a kidnapping victim in Chittagong, the police called him and registered a case. This incident took place in Chandgaon of the metropolis. Later, the police arrested two people involved in the robbery.

They were arrested in the early hours of Saturday (April 22) from Shamsherpara area of Chandgaon. The arrested are: Md. Salim Hossain alias Salim Reza (39) and Md. Noor Alam alias Manna (24). Among them, there are seven cases against Salim Reza in different police stations, police said.

Chandgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Khairul Islam said that on April 19, a person named Golam Akbar Farooqui posted on Facebook about kidnapping him and taking away Tk 50,000. When his post came to the attention of the Deputy Commissioner (North), he contacted the postman. Later, the victim was called and a case was registered regarding the incident. In the case, he mentioned that on the night of April 17, a gang of abductors forcibly abducted the victim from in front of Bahaddar Hut Pepsi and took him to a secluded spot. Then he collected 17 thousand taka from him and then another 10 thousand taka by beating him.

The OC said that after the case, two criminals were identified and the operation was conducted with the help of information technology. Two accused were arrested from Shamsherpara area at night (Friday night). Meanwhile, 9 thousand 200 taka was recovered from their custody. The police officer also said that the two accused were sent to the court on Saturday afternoon.
