Dhaka, July 5: Satkania Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Md Nazrul Islam have been made Officer on Special Duty (OSD) after a Chittagong doctor was fined for allegedly violating the lockdown, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Sunday (July 4).

After completing his MBBS degree from an educational institution in Chittagong, Dr. Farhad Kabir set up a chamber in his village Satkania. He regularly sees patients at the municipality's private Alpha Hospital as well as Nasir Pharmacy and Mecca Pharmacy.

On the second day of the lockdown, on Friday (July 2), on his way to the chamber at Mecca Pharmacy, he was searched at the check post of Satkania Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Nazrul Islam.

People with UNO signalled Dr. Farhad, who was going to the chamber on a motorcycle, to stop. Farhad was then taken to UNO with the keys of the motorcycle seized from him. The UNO fined the doctor even after knowing his identity.

Dr. Farhad Kabir, the doctor who suffered in the incident on Friday (July 2), wrote about his ordeal on Facebook on Saturday (July 3). He alleged that he was a victim of harassment.

The government has imposed strict restrictions on coronavirus prevention from 6 am on Thursday, July 1 till 11:59 pm on July 7. Apart from the emergency services, government and private offices, automated vehicles, shopping malls and shops have been closed.

Emergency services, including doctors and media personnel, have been exempted from the ban, according to a government circular.
