Dhaka, May 9: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) has nothing to do with Bushra Afreen's appointment as 'Chief Heat Officer' to reduce the temperature in Dhaka, said her father and North City Mayor Atiqul Islam.

He said, there is no office or chair in Dhaka North City Corporation for Bushra Afreen. Bushra is the pride of Bangladesh. She has been selected as the first Chief Heat Officer in Asia. But her appointment has nothing to do with our city corporation. We don't even have a post called 'Chief Heat Officer' here.

He said this in response to questions from reporters after the opening ceremony of the volleyball division of the DNCC Mayor's Cup Tournament-2023 organized at the Uttara No. 4 Sector Kalyan Samiti ground in the capital on Monday.

Mayor Atiqul Islam said that the city corporation will not provide any salary or car allowance to Bushra. Everything he needs will be provided by the Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation's Resilience Center, an international research institute. The company has so far appointed seven women chief heat officers globally.

He said, Bushra Afreen is my daughter. I told her you stay strong. Because I and my daughter know that she did not take any benefit from the city corporation. Bushra became an officer entirely in her own right. She is also the director of Islam Garments Group. She will leave her own business and work as Chief Heat Officer.

Mayor Atiqul said, Bushra is not important here whose son or daughter. It is a big message that a woman has been appointed as Chief Heat Officer in the whole of Asia. So we should be proud of her.

Bushra Afreen has been appointed on the basis of a memorandum of understanding between DNCC and the US-based Adrienne Arsht-Rockefeller Foundation to reduce the temperature in Dhaka city. As a result of this agreement, the City Corporation and the institution will work jointly. Bushra is Asia's first Chief Heat Officer.
