Clash case with police against 500 activists of BNP including Gayeshwar Roy

Dhaka, May 24: A case has been filed against BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and 46 activists of the party in connection with the clash with the police from the BNP's program in the Science Lab area of the capital's Newmarket police station.

Among the defendants in the case are BNP publicity secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anyi, BNP chairperson's advisor Abul Khair Bhuiyan, BNP central leader Mir Sarfat Ali Sapu, Central Juba Dal president Sultan Salauddin Tuku and others. Another 400 to 500 unidentified people have been accused in the case. The plaintiff in the case claimed that the police box was damaged to the tune of Tk 10 lakh due to the attack by the BNP activists.

On Wednesday, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Newmarket Police Station Md. Shafiqul Gani Sabu said that the police filed a case as a plaintiff in the incident of attack and vandalism on the police from BNP's march on Tuesday. The names of 46 activists of BNP have been mentioned in the case. Besides, another 400 to 500 people have been accused as unidentified. The plaintiff in the case is Sub-Inspector (SI) Sabuj Mia.

Earlier, the police filed a case in Dhanmondi police station, mentioning the names of 52 people, including the central leader of BNP's Dhaka Metropolitan South, Sheikh Rabiul Alam.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhanmondi Police Station Ikram Ali Mia said that the police filed a case as a plaintiff in the incident of attack and vandalism on the police during the march of BNP on Tuesday. In the case, the names of 52 activists including Sheikh Rabiul Alam, the central leader of Dhaka Metropolitan South Committee of BNP have been mentioned. Apart from this, many other unidentified people have been accused.

The OC said 27 people were arrested in connection with the clash. After the case, their arrest is shown. The collision happened around 4 pm on Tuesday. Dhaka South BNP's padayatra program was canceled due to this. The march started in front of Bangladesh Medical College in Dhanmondi at 2 pm. The march was supposed to end in front of Saat Masjid Road, Rifle Square, Dhaka City College, Science Lab Mor, Bata Signal and Kantaban Mosque.

Eyewitnesses said that a clash with the police started when the activists reached in front of City College shortly before 4 pm.

The BNP gave this program to protest against the disregard of the High Court's instructions, arbitrary arrests in absentee cases, false cases and police harassment, increase in commodity prices, load shedding, government corruption.

During the clash, BNP activists torched a BRTC bus and vandalized several cars. Besides, Dhanmondi vandalized the police box at crossing road number 3.
