Dhaka, November 1: To avoid coronavirus (Covid-19) infection, the Directorate Of Secondary & Higher Education (DSHE) wants to complete the admission process of public-private schools through lottery this year. School admission policy is being made with this aim. The policy may be finalized by holding a meeting in this regard this week. However, the heads of top institutions in Dhaka are not in favor of admitting students through lottery in all classes.

According to reports, enrollment of students in government and private schools across Bangladesh will start from from November ahead of the new year. In the meantime, the private schools are preparing to publish the admission notification. Admission forms will be distributed in government secondary schools in the capital in early December and lottery or admission test will be held at the end of the month. The application process will continue online.

The lottery is usually held every year for the admission of students for standard one in the schools. Admission tests are conducted for students applying for standards between second and ninth.

According to DSHE sources, the policy is being amended to complete the admission through lottery from first to ninth class instead of admission test like last year. Students will be admitted through lottery in all classes to avoid the risk of coronavirus infection.

The Ministry of Education is scheduled to hold a meeting this week to finalize the school admission policy for 2022. The meeting was scheduled to be held on Wednesday last week but was cancelled due to a press conference on SSC exam preparations. The meeting could take place any day of the week. Last year, the admission of students in public and private schools was completed through lottery.

DSHE Director General Professor Syed Golam Farooq said next year's policy has not been finalized yet. Work has started in this regard. The policy will be finalized and announced soon.

He said more emphasis would be placed on how to avoid risks in student admissions to schools in Corona. For this reason, admission will be offered from first to ninth class through lottery. If this proposal is accepted, next year's student admission will be done in lottery.

Meanwhile, Professor Kamrunnahar, principal of Vikarunnisa Noon School and College in the capital, thinks that if the medium is admitted through lottery, it will have various negative effects on the educational institutions. He said it is not possible to select students if all classes are admitted through lottery.
