Classes of first batch of PhD course begin at BSMMU

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Sept 26: Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) has started classes for the first batch of Ph.D. courses.

On Sunday (September 25), classes officially started in the classroom on the fourth floor of the 'A' block of the university.

According to BSMMU authorities, 24 doctors from the first batch of PhD course participated on the first-day class. Former Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Health Sciences Professor Dr. Liaquat Ali took the introductory class as the external facilitator of the PhD programme.

In this context, Professor Dr. Liaquat said, "There is a great opportunity to do PhD in various subjects in medical science. PhD programs are very important for a university in knowledge creation, knowledge dissemination, and knowledge preservation. Maintaining an intellectual pleasure mind, joint supervision and collaboration, and finding and securing different sources of budget are essential to making a PhD program successful."

University Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Dr. AKM Mosharraf Hossain said, "Efforts will be made to make as many modifications as possible to advance this PhD programme. Different types of fellowships will be introduced and grants will be awarded based on merit. Apart from this, whether a monthly allowance can be given to students studying in PhD programme is also under consideration."
