Cold wave sweeping across country

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, January 28: The intensity of winter is increasing all over the country. The Meteorological Department said cold wave has been sweeping over Rangpur and Rajshahi divisions, as well as Gopalganj, Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Jessore and Kushtia districts.

The meteorological office also said the temperature may drop further due to the ongoing cold wave.

The lowest temperature in Rajarhat of Rangpur division was 6.1 degree Celsius on Thursday. Besides, the highest temperature recorded in Dhaka yesterday was 23.2 degree Celsius. Today, the lowest temperature recorded in Dhaka is 13 degrees Celsius. In the last 24 hours, light rain was reported in one or two places in the country. Nine millimeter rainfall has been recorded in Maijdicourt area of Chittagong division.

Meanwhile, the Rangpur region is trembling in January end's cold wind. A moderate cold wave is sweeping over this region at the foot of the riverine Himalayas. The temperature is expected to drop further. The public life of the north is getting disrupted.

Rangpur recorded 8.2 degree Celsius and Rajarhat in Kurigram recorded the lowest temperature of 6.4 degree Celsius on Friday morning. The meteorological office said this is the lowest temperature in the last five years in the northern region including Rangpur.

Besides the cold waves and dropping temperature, dense fog in the region has been disrupting traffic movement and increasing the risk of road accidents.
