Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 13 January 2024: Temperatures have dropped further as a cold snap has spread. On Friday, a mild cold wave passed over four districts, but it has spread to 13 districts on Saturday. Dense fog has narrowed the gap between maximum and minimum temperatures and cold northerly winds are now giving a severe winter feel across the country. Even the city dwellers are busy in winter.

On Saturday January 13 morning, the lowest temperature in the country was 8.8 degrees Celsius in Dinajpur. A day ago, the lowest temperature in the country was 9.6 degrees Celsius in Nikoli and Chuadanga of Kishoreganj. In the morning, the lowest temperature recorded in Dhaka was 13.7 degrees Celsius.

According to the Meteorological Department, when the minimum temperature falls between 8 and 10 degrees Celsius over a wide area, it is called a mild cold front. If the temperature is between 6 to 8 degrees it is called moderate and if the temperature is between 4 to 6 degrees it is called severe cold current. When the minimum temperature falls below 4 degrees Celsius, it is called an extreme cold current.

Due to dense fog, the sun is not visible in most parts of the country during the day. Therefore, the maximum day temperature has reduced a lot. At some places the difference between maximum and minimum temperature is less than 5 degrees Celsius. The maximum and minimum temperature difference in Dhaka is 4.8 degrees Celsius. At the same time, a cold wind is blowing from the north. So the entire country is in the grip of severe winter. The sky of Dhaka is covered with fog since Saturday morning. The sun did not appear until 12 noon. The highest temperature in the country on Friday was 26.4 degrees Celsius in Teknaf. The maximum temperature in Dhaka was 18.5 degrees Celsius.

Meteorologist Md. highlighted the weather forecast for the next 24 hours from 9 am on Saturday. Bajlur Rashid said that the weather in the whole country may remain dry with temporary partly cloudy skies. Moderate to dense fog is likely to fall over the country from midnight to morning and it may continue till afternoon at some places. Air traffic, inland waterways and road transport may be temporarily disrupted due to fog.
